bottlers note: Aroma: Wild Turkey 101 hat ein außergewöhnlich sanftes, aber reiches Aroma für einen high proof bourbon, dank der bei allen Produktionsschritten beachteten Qualität. Der Geschmack ist ein American classic mit Karamell und Vanille und Noten von Honig und Orangen.

 Eine zweite Meinung: Aroma: Dieser bourbon hat ein schönes Vanillearoma, dann komen die rye Noten ziemlich stark durch.

Geschmack: Anders als die 80 proof version des Wild Turkey findet sich hier ein vanillig-pfeffriger Geschmack ganz am Anfang. Er schlägt ein in dem Moment in dem er die Zunge berührt. Und er hält an, wird sogar stärker. Das kommt daher, daß Wild Turkey nicht viel Wasser beigibt um den bourbon nachdem er aus dem barrel kommt zu reduzieren. Daher sind die Aromen diese bourbon sehr ausgesprochen und deutlich.

Im Nachklang erscheint ein leicht alkoholisches Brennen, und die pfeffrige Note vom Geschmack hält an bis zum Ende. Nicht überwältigend, aber deutlich vorhanden.

Ausbau: new charred American white oak barrels

Besonderheit:  Der Wild Turkey 101 der Austin Nichols Distilling Co. Lawrenceburg,KY wird von diesen selbst als super premium bourbon gesehen. Mit seinen 101 Proof, 50,5% Alkohol wird er nur wenig mit Wasser reduziert, da er mit ungefähr 109 proof, 54.5% aus den barrels kommt, daher ist er sehr intensiv. So um 2009 erschienen, gab es ihn zunächst in den USA und Japan, jedoch nicht im Duty Free Sektor und auch nicht für Europa. Er soll 8 Jahre alt sein.

Jimmy Russell notes that unlike some of its competitors, "We make Wild Turkey the old-fashioned way. It's a totally natural process which takes substantially more time and money, but we believe it's worth it."

As many competitors distill at higher (and less expensive) proofs, they must add water to bring down the proof of their bourbons. Wild Turkey, on the other hand, comes out of the barrel at about 109 allowing our distiller to add little water and retain the true characteristics of the bourbon flavor. Wild Turkey is put it into the barrel at a lower (and more expensive) proof. Master Distiller Jimmy Russell likens it to making a great soup; if you cook it longer at a lower temperature, you retain the best flavors.
